Terrazza Borromini | La Grande Bellezza

Price rating: $$$$
Our rating: ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
Address: Via di Santa Maria dell’Anima 30, 00186 Roma
Open: Daily 12 pm – 12 am

Perched on the top floors of Piazza Navona’s Palazzo Pamphilj, Terrazza Borromini boasts one of the best views of any Roman rooftop bar. Nowhere gets you as up close and personal to the neighbouring Church of Sant’Agnese in Agone and the obelisk embedded into Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers, and the distant Dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica and Capitoline Hill are just as impressive.

Here’s the catch. Not only is this place expensive, but it’s also really hard to book.

This is not so much because they’re inundated by requests but because their booking system is as antiquated as the building this cocktail bar is set within. Your only options are to navigate an Italian website, and either call a number or email a Gmail address.

Granted, you can’t falter the views. But for aperitivos at €30 per person (and food that is fine, but nothing out of the ordinary), you can do much better.

The cocktail bar, led by mixologist Riccardo Marinelli, is the heart and soul of the rooftop. With an extensive menu of both classic and innovative cocktails, Terrazza Les Étoiles is the perfect spot for an evening aperitif or a relaxing drink after dinner. Soft drinks start from €10, spritzes start from €20, and classic cocktails start from €22. The bar is open every day, and while reservations are recommended for dinner, the rooftop is freely accessible, making it an ideal choice for spontaneous visits.
